The Loretto Sisters were recognized by the York Region conservation authority as exemplary stewards of the land and the lake during the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority’s 30th annual conservation awards at Madsen’s Garden and Greenhouses in Newmarket on October 27, 2011. Loretto Maryholme, located at Roche’s Point in York Region, offers programs related to spirituality, community building and ecological awareness.

Slavery in the 21st Century

Last week, I attended a one day York University conference entitled SLAVERY IN THE 21st CENTURY. Martin Van Doren, RCMP co-ordinator for human trafficking awareness in Ontario, stated “Human Trafficking is still prevalent across Canada”. Violent criminals are preying on Canadian girls as young as 14. A Canadian strategy, now sadly lacking, needs to come into place.”
