Juan was born in El Salvador, arrived in Canada at the age of 16, obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall in 1992 and an MBA from Queen’s University. He is the first Central American called to the bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada. As founder and principal of Toronto’s largest ethnic law firm serving clients in ten+ languages Juan’s efforts in community service are contagious. His firm’s members all do pro bono legal work and are active in and contributors to many not-for-profit community groups. In 2000 Juan received a prestigious community service award from the law society of Upper Canada and the Somos Capaces Award from the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples.

He has been active in the Latin American Community Centre, Salvadorean Settlement Services, the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples, CLASP and CSCDES. He was very influential in obtaining Canada’s first Spanish Language radio station in 2003. Juan is a past president and chair of the board and active member of SalvAide and frequent visitor to El Salvador.
