Empowering Women: A Sound Investment - St. Jerome's University

Louise Fréchette Former Deputy Secretary-General of the UN
Louise FréchetteBased on her experiences as Deputy Secretary-General of the UN and her involvement in government and business, Mme. Fréchette will discuss why the advancement of women matters to the well being of societies as a whole. Around the globe, many societies are developing new norms to define the rights of women and creating new institutions and programs to support women in their economic, social and political aspirations. Yet there remain societies that continue to oppress and marginalize women. If societies fail to accord women their rights, these societies are effectively depriving themselves of the talent of half their population, which prompts Mme. Fréchette to ask, “What country can afford to waste so much of its human capital?”
Free and open to the public. All welcome.
